Data, audience and customer intelligence

Segmentation, insight, campaign intelligence and commercial use of audience assets.

What is Data, Audience Monetisation and Consumer Intelligence?

It is one of GWO SEVO’s four internal Strategic Service Lines. Its role is to turn customer, audience and market data into insight, targeted commercial action and new revenue opportunities.

What is the Audience Monetisation and Customer Intelligence Programme?

It is designed for organisations that hold customer or audience assets but are not converting them into commercial value. Approved capabilities include segmentation, insights, audience monetisation strategy, campaign intelligence, reporting and commercial recommendations.

What is the difference between customer data and audience data?

Customer data relates to people or organisations with a recorded customer relationship. Audience data may describe a broader group that interacts with a platform, publication, campaign or channel. The permitted use and reliability of each source need separate review.

When should an organisation consider a customer-intelligence programme?

Consider it when data exists but teams cannot identify useful segments, explain campaign performance, understand customer value or turn the available information into a responsible commercial action.

What is customer or audience segmentation?

Segmentation groups records using characteristics or behaviour relevant to a defined decision. A useful segment must be understandable, reachable, permitted for the intended use and different enough to justify a distinct action.

How does raw customer data become a useful insight?

Start with a decision the organisation needs to make, assess the relevant data and test whether the pattern is reliable enough to inform action. A chart or large dataset is not automatically an insight.

What should an audience monetisation strategy cover?

It should define the audience asset, permitted uses, customer or partner value, commercial model, operating responsibilities and measurement. The strategy must not assume that possession of data creates a right to use or sell it.

What is campaign intelligence?

Campaign intelligence connects audience, channel, message and response data so teams can understand what happened and make a better next decision. It should preserve the limits of the available attribution rather than claim certainty that the data cannot support.

What should customer-intelligence reporting include?

It should present the agreed question, the data used, the relevant segment or pattern, the limitation and the commercial implication. Reporting is useful when it helps an owner decide what to do next.

What makes a data-led commercial recommendation credible?

The recommendation should be tied to an approved business objective, supported by the available evidence and clear about assumptions or missing data. It should also identify the action, owner and measure needed to test it.

How do we know whether our first-party data is ready for commercial use?

Check where the data came from, what permission applies, how complete and current it is, whether identifiers are consistent and whether the intended use matches the reason it was collected. Readiness is both a data-quality and governance question.

Can customer intelligence work with incomplete data?

Some analysis may still be possible, but the missing information must be made visible. The programme should not treat an incomplete dataset as representative without evidence, and recommendations should reflect the limitation.

What should we fix first when customer data quality is poor?

Begin with the fields and records required for a real commercial decision. Define ownership, acceptable values, update points and how duplicates or missing information are handled before expanding the dataset.

What is customer value analysis used for?

It helps an organisation compare customer groups using an agreed measure of value and relationship history. The analysis may inform retention, growth or service decisions, but the measure and period must be stated clearly.

Does audience monetisation always mean selling customer data?

No. It can mean using permitted audience insight to improve targeting, campaign products, partnerships or other commercial decisions. Any proposed use must respect the approved purpose, consent and governance requirements.

Can customer intelligence be combined with acquisition or lifecycle work?

Yes. Packages can be combined or customised when insight needs to inform targeting, conversion, retention or customer value. The assessment establishes the problem first and avoids inferring an unapproved fixed mapping between packages and service lines.
